Topic Brainstorm
Topic 1: Mermaids
I have always enjoyed being in the water ever since my
first swim lesson when I was three. Since then I swam competitively for both
my high school team and a club team. I also become a life guard and swim
instructor. Needless to say if I could pick one Disney princess to be it would
be Ariel the little Mermaid. I would like to learn more about Mermaid stories
from different cultures and different periods in history so that I can compare and contrast them. I’m also really
interested in the Theme of “Water” but I’m not sure if that is to broad of a
topic.
Topic 2: Greek Gods : The Twelve Olympians
I have always ben interested in Greek mythology and more
specifically the ancient gods and goddesses that had specific domain of all
that life encompasses. I would like to get more familiar with some key gods and
goddesses such as Poseidon God of the sea, Zeus, and Aphrodite to name a few. I
would then like to tell stories about their interactions and maybe make up a
few story lines of my own.
Topic 3: Animal: The Dog
I love animals and in particular dogs. I’m fascinated with how the symbol of a dog is used through out
many different cultures and stories. In Chinese culture the Dog is a special
motif and appears in the Chinese zodiac calendar. For this project I would want
to focus on how the Dog is used throughout Chinese culture. Further, I want to learn more about the
zodiac calendar and write stories that show how the dog has changed throughout
history and tie that to the zodiac calendar in some way.
Topic 4: Buddha
I have recently been learning about Buddhism and I would
like to do more reading on its practices and beliefs. I’ve also started doing
mediation and I’ve been getting back into yoga and I would like to explore the
connections and meanings behind meditation and the Asian culture. I really want
to read the book “The Life of Buddha” and then from that I will hopefully be
able to pick a few chapters that I would expand on in my storybook.
