Introduction to a Future Doctor
My name is Sydney Warrick and my major is
Biology Pre-Med. This summer I was super busy with taking my MCAT (a test you
have to take in order to get into medical school), filling out my medical
school applications, and volunteering at some local hospitals. My goal is to
get accepted into a medical school program this year and then start medical
school in fall of 2018, with the end goal of becoming a physician. Even though
my summer was filled with studying and deadlines I did manage to find some time
for fun. For instance, I live on Skiatook Lake, which is a small town about
thirty minutes away from Tulsa. At the lake I enjoy taking the boat out and
tubing, wake boarding, and hanging out with friends.

I also enjoy hanging out with my family, which
this summer was my brothers last summer before he goes off to college. My
brother, Danny, is going to The Kings College in New York City. He’s going to
be living in an apartment in Manhattan on Wall Street, which is only a
five-minute walk to his school. I’m super excited for him and now that he’s
going to school in New York it gives me an excuse to come visit him in New
York City more often! Since this summer was the summer right before my brother left for college
my mom organized a big family vacation to Charleston, South Carolina where we
have a lot of family. We rented a beach house for the week In Charleston and
had so much fun. While we where there we toured historical downtown Charleston
and went on a dinner cruise, which had amazing seafood. I also got to catch up
with my cousins that I haven’t seen in a while and of course waking up on the
beach everyday wasn’t to bad either.
Wow Sydney I sounds like you had a very eventful summer! I too am an avid lake lover (although I don't get to live on a lake like you do). There is just something about the water, a boat, and some sand that makes a summer what it is am I right? Congrats on getting all your application submitted too! I know that is very stressful. Anyways good luck on this upcoming year!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many future medical professionals in these classes, Sydney, and congratulations on taking the MCAT already this summer.... plus I am glad you also had time for being out on the water. That Skiatook picture is beautiful! And you are lucky to have such good excuses to to visit New York and Charleston. (My dad lives in Austin, and that's another great city to be able to go visit often.) If you want to do a health-related project for this class, of course there are so many gods and goddesses of healing in the mythology and folklore of the world, along with stories about folk medicine. Wikipedia has a huge list where you will find healing gods and goddesses from around the world: List of health deities ... including the Greek Asclepius, who is famous for that snake-entwined rod that is a medical symbol even today: Rod of Asclepius :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Sydney! I had a lot of friends take the MCAT this summer so I got to hear their struggles of studying all summer! You have a good head on your shoulders and it sounds like you have your goals pretty laid out.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoy going to the lake! Although I do not live on one I have a lake house at Lake Texoma that I really really enjoy going to.
Hey Sydney, I am also from the Tulsa area. I try to make it out to Skiatook Lake whenever I get a chance. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it out this labor day weekend, I know its always packed around this time. Furthermore, I recently took my MCAT a well, so I am sure our summers were very similar. In addition, thats really exciting for your brother. I am hopeful to get into a program in New York City when I hear back from different medical school. Anyway, I really enjoyed your introduction. It seems like we have a lot in common! And I hope you get into whatever program you have your eye on. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Sydney! Like you, I was focusing a lot of my summer on some final touches before applying to physical therapy school. Also like you, my get-away was the lake! What a small world!
ReplyDeleteI didn't make it to the beach, but I'm glad you did. There's nothing like the sound of the ocean!
Good luck on your application process! I look forward to reading more of your posts!
Hi Sydney! Wow congrats on studying for the MCAT! That's awesome! I know that process and the application process itself can be super time consuming (almost all my roommates are in medical related majors) so I'm sending you major major happy thoughts! You can do it! I take the LSAT this Saturday so if you can send me some of your test taking mojo I'd be so appreciative! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHello, Sydney! It seems as though you had a very busy and productive summer. I took a summer course for the month of June and honestly it was hard for me to be motivated to study every day when everyone else was relaxing! So wait to stay motivated! I am glad that in the end you had the opportunity to spend time with your family and relax on the beach before another tough semester took off.
ReplyDeleteHey again Sydney!
ReplyDeleteYou have had quite the busy summer. I totally understand what you had to endure. I studied for the DAT all summer and recently applied to dental school. My roommates also studied all summer for the MCAT. It is definitely not an easy task! I think your brother is going to love New York! One of my older brothers attended college in New York, and it was an awesome experience for him. It was definitely a highlight for me when I was able to visit. There is never a shortage of things to see and do in New York City. I wish you the best of luck this year! I hope everything works out for you this application cycle. I am sure you will accomplish your goals!
Hey Sydney!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had an eventful summer! I have a handful of friends in med school at OU and OSU right now so I know how much time and effort they put into the MCAT. I love the lake as well, I go to Grand Lake every summer for Memorial day, Fourth of July, and Labor day, (also random weekends when I can). I hope you get into the med school of your dreams and have a bright future!
Hey Sydney!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a stressful summer with the MCAT, I hope you get in to the school of your choice! That is pretty cool that your brother is living in Manhattan. I think I would use that as an excuse to go to New York as well.
Sounds like you have a good plan for your next few years.
Wish you the best this year and in the future!
Hey Sydney!
ReplyDeleteI'm also a pre-med student trying to make their way into medical school! I haven't taken my MCAT yet, but have started preparing for it. I'm planning on taking it in in April and have my eyes set on admissions in the fall of 2019. At first my major of choice coming into college was biology too, but I settled for chemical biosciences because of its diversity. You had a very eventful summer as well! It's nice that you have so much family in one spot whereas mine are all over the country and overseas!
Hi Sydney!
ReplyDeleteWow, looks like there are some people I haven't gotten the chance to meet! Well, I am glad I was able to come across your page before the semester ended. I hope all is going well with your medical school cycle and the application process! I know it can be tough - I'm going through dental school cycle right now! I wish you the best of luck with med school, and finals week! Nice to meet you!
Hi Sydney! Trust me, I know how tough the Pre-Health profession can be, but it looks like you are doing just fine! Wow, waking up on the beach sounds like a dream. I’ve never been tubing before, but I hear it’s a lot of fun. It seems like you love adventure and the outdoors. I’m looking forward to your writing!
ReplyDeleteHi Sydney!
ReplyDeleteWow, good luck with getting into medical school next year, that's amazing! I'm glad you found time for fun this summer as well, instead of just deadlines and studying. I love going to the lake, especially tubing. It's so much fun! I'm jealous of your brother going to school in New York. That would be quite the experience I imagine. New York is wonderful, it's one of my favorite places to visit. Charleston sounds like it would be a blast, I hope to visit there someday. Good luck with finals!
Hi Sydney!
ReplyDeleteI love how important your family is to you! That's so sweet! My little brother will be heading off to college after this summer and I'm not looking forward to that transition. I guess big sisters will always want to protect little brothers in some way. I'm glad you're able to visit your family and have fun at the same time! Good luck on getting into med school and becoming a physician!!
Hi, Sydney! First off, I would like to wish you the best of luck in med school. I am glad that you still found time for yourself, it’s important to de-stress especially after studying and filling out application. That is great that you now have an excuse to travel to New York. Anyway, it was nice to ‘meet’ you and once I again I wish you luck on becoming a physician.
ReplyDeleteHey, Sydney! I know it is the end of the semester but it is nice to meet you! It's awesome that you are pre-med. I was pre-vet for a bit until I decided that writing was my real passion. I hope you get into the medical school of your choice. As an English Writing major, I don't really have finals (just really long final papers) but good luck with all of your finals!
