Reading Notes: Anderson Fairy Tales
I read the Hans Christian Andersen Unit Part A for the extra credit reading notes assignment. I very much enjoyed reading these stories and the one that stood out to me the most was The Emperor’s New Suit. I thought the name for the characters the swindlers was clever because the swindlers in the story told the king they would swindle clothes for him, but in reality they are just swindling money out of the king. I also liked the idea of the invisible cloth and how the only way someone could see the cloth is if you are smart and suitable for your position. With this being the criteria of being able to see the cloth even if someone didn’t see the clothing they would never admit it because they don’t wont others to think they are stupid or unfit for their position. I think this was a very well thought out plan that the swindlers thought up. In my story I would want to incorporate a character who’s name or occupation has a double meaning just like the swindlers. Additionally, I liked how an innocent child was the word of reason and he was the one to finally speak up and tell the truth, which no one else could do. In my story I think I would use paint to be my invisible object instead of cloth. Also I would use a painting of perhaps a prince which only the smart and gifted could see. Further, I want to use the idea of innocence to break the spell that everyone else seems to be under.

I keep seeing this unit on the list, and telling myself to check it out! It seems like you enjoyed it. I really am all about the sweet stories with funny endings (cheesy, I know), but that's just how I roll. I prefer things like this over stories that have an ending where the main character dies, it's just so unsatisfying!
