Reading Notes: The Great Plains, Part A
For this week I decided to read the Great Plains unit. I very much enjoyed reading the first part of this unit and I thought the story’s where both interesting and entertaining. The story that I was mostly intrigued by was The Legend of the Peace Pipe, which comes from the Omaha tribe. I really liked the use of animals in this story. I liked how they stayed constant with one type of animal, the bird, but expanded on that by having many different types of birds such as an owl, woodpecker, and bald eagle to name a few. In my own story I plan to use the bear as my main animal and then I will expand on that with different types of bear such as, brown bear, black bear, and grizzly bear. Further, in my story instead of using feathers to make the peace pipes I plan on using bear claws. I also might have my story take place in present time where I will have a story inside my story. The main story will be in present time and then one of my characters will be telling a story about the origin of the peace pipe which is where the bear and making of pipes takes place.
