Wikipedia Trail: from Halloween to Guising
I decided to make this wikipedia trail about Halloween since it was on the the sidebar twitter stream and it is coming up soon. Here are some cool things that I learned
Halloween- Halloween is a time in the liturgical year dedicated to remembering the dead. It's origins lie in Celtic and Gaelic culture.
Liturgical Year- This is known as the christian year or the church year. It consists of the annual cycle that declares feast days, holidays and celebrations as they are described in scripture.
Pagan- Paganism is known as Celtic polytheism. It is comprised of the religious beliefs and practices of the Iron Age people of western Europe, 500 BCE-500 CE. Halloween is believed to have pagan roots.
Guising- This is the act of children dressing up and going door to door in search of candy. It's more commonly known as trick-or-treating.
